The year is 1962 and the Cold War has the nation gripped by fear. A top-secret government unit called The Bureau begins investigating a series of mysterious attacks by an enemy more powerful than communism.
A single player game focused on telling the origin story of the XCOM initiative. A third-person tactical shooting game set within the high-stakes, covert war to protect humanity. Happened around the year of 1962 when Cold War between United States and Soviet Union had gripped the nations in fear with those powerful and insidious extraterrestrial hostile threatening America. By then a top secret government unit known as The Bureau begins investigating and concealing the series of mysterious attacks made by otherworldly enemies and keeping it in as if it never happened. The Bureau’s mission is clear to survive, adapt and overcome the enemy threat. Meanwhile a special agent William Carter leads a team of agents to fight off those “Outsiders” and to reveal the truth behind Bureau’s top secret on why all this happened.
The game started when Carter was tasked to deliver a briefcase to Faulke at the Bureau’s research lab or the Groom Range as they call it. Upon entering at the lab, Carter notice a military officer heading towards him and approach him saying that she will be escorting him to Faulke to deliver the briefcase. But then Carter refuses, that’s when he discovers that the military officer has been infected and tries to shoot him, the briefcase was opened and it emits light which stun Carter and incinerates the military officer. Moments after the incident Carter woke up noticing that his gunshot wound was all healed. Carter saved and rescued Faulke but he is failed to save the other officials. Carter finds himself at the sharp end of a war against an aggressive alien invader, a coalition of different species known as Mosaic.
The player of the game plays the role of agent William Carter and commands to other agents. Carter has several unique abilities, such as healing his entire squad, lifting enemies out of cover, and summoning combat drones. While the other agents divided into different classes with their abilities and special skills, also each class is proficient in a different set of powers and weapon types. An all-purpose commando, a recon agent who handles sniper duty, an engineer who deploys mines and turrets, and a support specialist who can deliver bubble shields and buff the squad’s attributes and healing.
Battle Focus slows down time to execute to your next move, commanding your squad with a variety of tactical actions to turn the tide in your favor. Agents have customizable outfits, weapons, equipment, and abilities to fight through the streets of 1960’s America as you uncover the declassified truth behind mankind’s first enemy invasion, you can turn an enemy misstep into your strategic advantage and give tactical commands on the fly to outsmart the enemy and make split-second decisions to save the lives of your squad. Lastly train each of your squad mates into unique specializations, allowing for a dynamic combination of skills to compliment your game style.
Throughout the course of the game, the player can collect backpack schematics and alien weapons, which then become available for the entire squad. Each backpack provides a unique bonus to the agent wearing it. For example, the Sharpshooter Pack provides bonus head-shot damage, and the Guardian Pack reduces damage taken from attacks. These equipments can be altered before a mission, or at Resupply Stations located in each mission.
Overall, this game is ultimately worked out to be a remarkable game. A good game indeed! Smart decision-making has always been the essential tool of any game. With so much accumulated fat gumming up The Bureau’s arteries, it’s easy to miss that there’s actually a healthy gameplay heart pumping away in here.
